Data Scientist - StatSports
Data Scientist
Data Scientist driving performance insights from GPS telemetry, building ML models and scalable data pipelines to optimize athlete performance and reduce injury risk.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models on large-scale GPS telemetry data to uncover performance and injury risk insights.
- Build and maintain end-to-end data pipelines using Python, SQL, and AWS services to ingest, clean, and transform raw sensor data.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (engineering, product, sports science) to translate analytical findings into actionable product features.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and statistical modeling to support decision‑making for elite athletes and teams.
- Document methodologies, create reproducible notebooks, and present results to stakeholders in clear, non‑technical language.
Requirements
- Strong programming skills in Python and experience with data science libraries (pandas, NumPy, scikit‑learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch).
- Proven ability to work with time‑series GPS data and perform feature extraction relevant to sports performance.
- Experience building scalable data pipelines on AWS (S3, Redshift, Glue, Lambda) or similar cloud platforms.
- Solid understanding of SQL and relational database design.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
