Data Science Manager - American Express

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute the data science strategy for enterprise risk management, aligning analytics initiatives with regulatory and business objectives.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, analysts, and engineers to design, build, and deploy predictive risk models and monitoring tools.
• Collaborate with risk, compliance, and technology stakeholders to translate complex risk concepts into actionable data-driven insights.
• Oversee the end‑to‑end data pipeline, including data acquisition, cleaning, feature engineering, model training, validation, and production deployment on cloud platforms.
• Establish best practices for model governance, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement to ensure model reliability and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands‑on experience in data science or analytics, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
• Strong proficiency in Python and machine‑learning libraries (e.g., scikit‑learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and solid SQL skills for data extraction and manipulation.
• Demonstrated expertise in statistical modeling, risk analytics, and building predictive models for financial or regulatory environments.
• Experience deploying models on cloud services such as AWS (SageMaker, EC2, Lambda) and managing scalable data pipelines.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management abilities, with a track record of translating technical results into business‑focused recommendations.
