The Data Center Field Engineer bridges field execution and project management, ensuring accurate documentation, validating site conditions, and supporting technical workflows to keep data‑center builds on schedule and within quality standards.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary on‑site liaison between field crews and project managers throughout the data‑center build lifecycle.
- Validate and record field conditions, equipment installations, and cable routing to ensure compliance with design specifications.
- Maintain up‑to‑date technical documentation, including as‑built drawings, change orders, and progress reports.
- Support network and infrastructure troubleshooting, coordinating with vendors and internal teams to resolve issues quickly.
- Monitor project schedules and quality metrics, escalating risks and recommending corrective actions to keep milestones on track.
Requirements
- 2+ years of hands‑on experience in data‑center or large‑scale network infrastructure environments.
- Proficiency with networking hardware (e.g., switches, routers, fiber optics) and familiarity with industry standards such as TIA‑942.
- Strong documentation skills and experience using project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, or similar).
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, rack elevation diagrams, and electrical layouts.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving abilities, with a focus on teamwork and stakeholder coordination.
