Security Engineer
A part‑time internship supporting the County IT Security team, focusing on threat monitoring, vulnerability scanning, and hands‑on security tooling using Python and SIEM platforms.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the security operations team in monitoring alerts and investigating potential incidents using SIEM tools.
- Perform vulnerability scans on internal systems and help remediate findings.
- Develop and maintain simple Python scripts to automate security tasks and data collection.
- Support documentation of security policies, procedures, and incident reports.
- Participate in weekly security briefings and contribute to threat‑intelligence research.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program majoring in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Fundamental understanding of network protocols, firewalls, and common security concepts.
- Basic experience with Python scripting and familiarity with SIEM or log‑analysis tools.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
