About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the principal scientific authority and S&T adviser to the AFRL Commander, shaping the laboratory’s research agenda and technology roadmap.
- Lead cross‑disciplinary teams in discovering, developing, and integrating advanced technologies for air, space, and cyberspace warfighting capabilities.
- Forge partnerships with industry, academia, and other government agencies to accelerate technology transfer and maintain the U.S. edge in emerging domains such as AI, quantum computing, and space systems.
- Oversee program management, budget allocation, and resource prioritization to ensure timely delivery of high‑impact research outcomes.
- Champion cybersecurity and resilience across all research initiatives, safeguarding critical data and intellectual property.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in leading large, complex research organizations within defense or aerospace sectors.
- Deep technical expertise in emerging technologies (AI/ML, quantum, space, cyber) and proven ability to translate research into operational capabilities.
- Strong strategic vision, with a track record of developing and executing long‑term technology roadmaps.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex scientific concepts to senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated success in managing multi‑million‑dollar budgets and multidisciplinary teams.
