The Role

As an AI Research Engineer at Helsing, you will be instrumental in delivering AI-based capabilities and the enabling infrastructure for semi-autonomous platforms to localise, navigate, and perceive the world in real-time. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of AI in a challenging sector where performance, high generalisation capabilities, and robust adversarial attack resistance are paramount.

Responsibilities

• Experiment with and invent novel AI algorithms for defence applications, specifically focusing on perception at the edge and assisting human decision-making.
• Participate in challenging, cross-team projects.
• Collaborate with Software and Deployed engineers to integrate cutting-edge ML algorithms into production systems.

Requirements

• Hold an MSc in robotics, computer science, engineering or a related field with experience in conceptualising, implementing, and thoroughly evaluating advanced AI-based systems.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to report and present research findings clearly and efficiently, both internally and externally.
• Passion for staying updated with current research and enjoyment in reimplementing/extending papers on state-of-the-art Deep Learning-based approaches.
• Solid software engineering skills, including writing clean and well-structured code in Python and/or languages like Rust, Java, or modern C++.
• Experience deploying AI software to production, including testing, QA, and monitoring.

Nice to Have

• PhD in robotics, computer science, engineering or a related field, with authored publications in top-tier conferences (e.g., CVPR, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICCV, ICRA, IROS).
• Experience designing, developing, and evaluating state-of-the-art AI methods on edge devices with limited compute resources and leading their end-to-end product delivery.
• Experience with simulators, emulators, or synthetic data generators.
