Former Staff Machine Learning Engineer at LinkedIn and author of 15 registered machine learning patents. As a machine learning consultant, I build machine learning solutions, often from scratch, for top tier startups in the San Francisco Bay Area. I specialize in solving algorithms from head to toe - now as a consultant and before that as a machine learning specialist in LinkedIn, I've repeatedly went through the process of translating a business need to AI product definition, getting on top of the existing literature, hatching an algorithm that gets the problem solved, and following through with deployed production code, serving at a scale of 500M users and training on petabytes of data. Specialities include: ● Machine Learning / Deep Learning - built state of the art face recognition platform for RealFace (bought by apple), and a host of Tensorflow based applications in LinkedIn - from ads expansion using vector embedding techniques to profile photo analysis using convolutional neural nets. ● Computer Vision - segmentation, modelling, reconstruction, object detection ● Digital Signal Processing - maximum likelihood estimation, real time signal analysis ● Data Science & Natural Language processing - Language Modelling, Hadoop workflows, data exploration ● Production know-how: repeatedly moved models from concept level to stable production grade software, meeting performance latency constraints and impacting >500MM members on LinkedIn. ● Able to to kick off and scale model training and serving at scale on AWS and other cloud solutions cost-effectively. Built models that train on petabytes of data.

Picweather
January 1, 2015 – Present
www.picweather.com The premise is simple. Weather forecasts show you numbers, but people want to know how to reasonably dress for the expected weather. Solution: show Instagram photos that depict how real people dress in outdoors weather conditions. This isn't as easy as it sounds, since most of the photos on Instagram depict cupcakes and motivational posters rather than outdoor pictures with people. I trained a deep neural network, face detector, and upper body detector, to sift through photos and show ones that are likelier to be relevant for someone who want to dress right for the weather. Right now you're only going to see decent results for San Francisco and London, because I only bothered building up my dataset on these locations. It's a work in progress!
Showapp
January 1, 2013 – Present
Co founded Showapp - a last minute ticketing app, that connects between spontenous people who want to know "what's on" tonight and venue owners that want to fill up those last empty seats. ● App was released early 2012, grabbing the #2 spot in the Appstore in the general category. ● Scalable backend seamlessly supported overnight 20X increase in traffic due to national media piece about our app ● A complete success technologically, with a slick UI and robust backend, we failed (so far) to get the attention of a major business vendor that would like to use this as a leading platform for tickets sales. ● A lesson well learned about the importance of focusing on the complicated business aspects of market creation: Showapp suffered from a curse in disguise, with user growth vastly outpacing business growth and ticket supply remaining overly limited.
Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's diverse project portfolio, ranging from medical imaging to social media and document processing, indicates adaptability and a broad interest in applying technical skills to various domains. Their experience in both large corporations (LinkedIn) and startups (DocuPipe, Photobear, Showapp) suggests flexibility in different work environments. The target role of 'Data Analyst' is a significant shift from their extensive Machine Learning Engineer and CEO roles, which might indicate a desire for a different type of challenge or a misunderstanding of the typical Data Analyst responsibilities. While their technical skills are highly advanced, the direct alignment with a traditional 'Data Analyst' role, which often focuses more on reporting, dashboards, and business intelligence rather than deep learning model development, is not immediately clear. This could be a cultural mismatch if the role is not heavily focused on advanced ML/AI for data analysis.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's entrepreneurial background and leadership roles (CEO, Cofounder) suggest strong initiative, problem-solving, and strategic thinking. Their experience in delivering production-grade solutions indicates a results-oriented approach and ability to work under pressure. The descriptions of project failures (Showapp) also show self-awareness and learning from experience. However, the resume does not explicitly detail collaboration styles or direct communication skills in a team setting, which would need further validation.
