The project deal with Automated abnormalities (Polyp) detection in Endoscopy videos. The project included literature review phase, and active research phase. Literature review- including review of about 70 papers and patents dealing with similar problem, along with general methods in image processing such as LBP, HOG, Haar like features, Color histogram, texture entropy etc... Research phase included full implementation of the detection pipeline. Multiple methods were implemented and combined in a single framework. The research phase included solution of multiple problems: - image prepossessing & enhancement, - ROI selection, - Features selection and combination- both manual and automatic such as Cascade pyramid, Principal Component Analysis and others, - Classifiers selection (SVM, Neural networks, Bayesian networks etc..), - Database Establishment (including ground-truth marking), - suspect object tracking and re-detection across frames (confidence improvement) - Performance analysis via ROC curves. The project presented results outperforming academical publication, while relying on a more realistic- & representative (harder and wider) database. The details and results were presented to Olympus Japan senior manager, achieving his high appreciation.
