March 6, 2017 – March 6, 2017
The goal of this assignment is to get some experience with sequence labeling. Specifically, you will be assigning dialogue acts to sequences of utterances in conversations from a corpus. In sequence labeling it is often beneficial to optimize the tags assigned to the sequence as a whole rather than treating each tag decision separately. With this in mind, you will be using a machine learning technique, conditional random fields, which is designed for sequence labeling. You will be using the toolkit, CRFsuite.

The goal of this assignment is to get some experience implementing the simple but effective machine learning technique, Naïve Bayes classification, and applying it to a binary text classification task (i.e., spam detection).
View ProjectWalmart-trip-type-classification
March 6, 2017 – March 6, 2017
Walmart attempts to provide every customer the best shopping experience they can through segmentation of stores visits into different trip types. These trip types are created using a combination of “art” (preexisting customer insights) and “science” (historical purchase data). In this project, we aim to create a classification model and predict the trip types by focusing only on the data (“science”) using a training dataset available on Kaggle containing a much smaller set of features than what is used by Walmart. Walmart posted this project idea/challenge on Kaggle as they believe that their segmentation process would see refinement by improving the science behind trip type classification.

View ProjectCultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's project portfolio shows a strong focus on individual, academic-style machine learning challenges, which aligns with a data scientist role requiring independent problem-solving. However, the lack of team projects or diverse industry applications makes it difficult to fully assess cultural fit in a collaborative or fast-paced commercial environment. The current role as 'Data Scientist' at Touch2Success is noted, but no details are provided about the responsibilities or team dynamics.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
Insufficient data to assess soft skills and operational fit. The candidate's project descriptions indicate an ability to work on defined problems, but there is no information regarding collaboration, problem-solving approaches, or communication style.
