Project_on_shallow_draft_pusher_tug_for_inland_waterways
October 1, 2017 – March 1, 2018
This project focused on designing a shallow-draft pusher tug to enhance cargo transportation efficiency on National Waterway 1 (NW-1), India’s longest inland waterway, which spans 1,620 km from Haldia to Allahabad. A detailed analysis of NW-1 was conducted to identify navigable routes and address challenges such as variable water depths and operational constraints. The design aimed to optimize the tug's performance under these varying conditions.Comprehensive ship design calculations were performed, including hydrostatic analysis, hull form optimization, propulsion system design, and structural strength assessments. The hydrostatic analysis ensured vessel stability and buoyancy, while hull form optimization. Key aspects of the project included: 1.Detailed Waterway Analysis: Conducted an in-depth analysis of NW-1, identifying navigable routes & addressing issues like variable water depths, infrastructure constraints, and environmental conditions. 2.Vessel Design: Performed comprehensive ship design calculations, covering hydrostatic analysis, hull form optimization, propulsion systemdesign & structural strength assessments. The design incorporated a shallow draft, square bow, and knees for barge handling, ensuring the vessel could operate efficiently in the region’s unique water conditions. 3.Compatibility with Indian Waterways: The design specifically accounted for the operational characteristics of Indian waterways, ensuring the vessel could handle varying water depths and efficiently navigate the entire length of NW-1. 4.Efficiency Solutions: Proposed solutions to improve IWT for different types of vessels, including cargo vessels, Over Dimensional Cargo (ODC), and tourism vessels. These solutions align with the government’s Jal Marg Vikas Project, aimed at revitalizing and expanding India’s inland water transport infrastructure. 5.Global Operational Standards:Ensured that vessel design adhered to global standards for structural strength, stability & prop. systems.

Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's diverse experience across maritime engineering, data engineering, and machine learning roles, coupled with a master's in Data Science & AI, suggests adaptability and a continuous learning mindset. Their involvement in the Google Developer Student Club indicates a proactive approach to community and technology engagement. The transition from naval architecture to data science shows a willingness to pivot and acquire new skills, which can be a strong cultural fit for dynamic environments. However, the primary project is heavily focused on naval architecture, which, while demonstrating analytical rigor, is not directly aligned with typical data analyst projects, potentially indicating a need to bridge this gap in a data-centric culture.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills through their experience in optimizing fleet performance and identifying efficiencies. Their collaboration with commercial operators and stakeholders indicates good communication and teamwork abilities. The project on shallow-draft pusher tug design also highlights a structured approach to complex problem-solving.
