CSSR — Causal State Splitting Reconstruction
August 1, 2015 – Present
Active maintainer of CSSR, working in close collaboration with the original authors: Cosma Shalizi and Kristina Klinkner. CSSR is an algorithm for building recursive hidden Markov models from discrete-valued time series, and other discrete sequential data. Unlike conventional hidden-Markov algorithms, which tune the parameters in a fixed architecture, CSSR is capable of inferring the appropriate architecture as well. In fact, under certain conditions, CSSR will converge on the optimal model of the underlying data-generating process.
DemandCube's Neverwinter Data Pipeline
May 1, 2014 – Present
Active contributor to DemandCube's open source data pipe line. I work primarily on KafkaSphere: a RESTful Sparkjava server, with a client-side angular and d3 monitor to visualize the real-time data going through the Kafka pipe.
Satellite
January 1, 2014 – Present
Satellite is a real-time online multiplayer space shooter game for the Oculus Rift running entirely in browser powered by WebGL with Three.js. Playable with or without Oculus Rift alongside keyboard, gamepad or flight stick. Uses custom Three.js renderer for stereoscopic 3D visuals in Oculus Rift or other head mounted displays.
BrowserStats
December 1, 2013 – Present
A research aid to help organize content as you navigate the web. - Written with service-oriented architecture in mind using a chrome extension, background web crawler, and companion webapp. - Used the Chrome API, browser actions and Browser Actions to package a Chrome application. - Parsed and crawled website content with the Natural library for natural language processing. - Visualized categorization of the parsed content by writing a dendrogram in d3.
Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's background includes a mix of academic research, startup experience (Sentenai, Bina Technologies, seedchange), and consulting roles. This diversity suggests an ability to thrive in various environments, from structured research to agile startup settings. The open-source contributions and personal projects indicate a strong passion for technology and continuous learning, which generally aligns well with innovative company cultures. However, the target role is 'Data Analyst' while the experience leans heavily towards 'Machine Learning Engineer' and 'Software Engineer', which might indicate a slight mismatch in day-to-day responsibilities unless the Data Analyst role has a strong ML/engineering component.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's project descriptions indicate a proactive and collaborative approach (e.g., 'Active contributor', 'working in close collaboration'). Experience as a 'Full stack Mentor' suggests strong communication and teaching abilities. The diverse project portfolio implies adaptability and a willingness to tackle complex problems.
