HESTIA - Helping Everyone in Struggle through Innovative Assistance
December 1, 2023 – March 1, 2024
Hestia is an innovative community application, enabling NGOs and government entities to track homeless individuals through a timestamped geotagged database. This aids in streamlining donation efforts and providing targeted support in alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals 1, 10, 11, and 16—addressing poverty, reducing inequalities, promoting sustainable cities, and supporting peace and justice. The tech stack powering Hestia includes Flutter for the mobile app, React for the Admin and NGO Portal, machine learning for region maps and face clustering, and deployment via Docker and Cloud Build on Google Cloud Platform. The application employs a unique approach, marking individuals through photos, creating map markers that generate region maps, facilitating efficient tracking for donation and support initiatives. A pivotal feature of Hestia is the SOS reporting system, allowing users to submit information on criminal activities in their vicinity through a form. The system alerts administrators via portals, incorporating face clustering to identify recurring markers and aiding in locating individuals, particularly beneficial for cases like Alzheimer's patients or during natural disasters. Additionally, Hestia integrates a community feature where users can post general or donation-related content. NGOs facilitate the collection and distribution of donated items, fostering community engagement. Cash donations are also seamlessly accommodated through this platform. The application further includes a chatbot to address homelessness-related queries and a Settings screen for user customization. The administrative portal empowers administrators with a comprehensive view of SOS reports and clustered markers. Admins have the authority to manually initiate the generation of region maps from new markers, ensuring timely updates and effective utilization of the application's functionalities.
Xohoj: Study Made Easy
April 1, 2023 – April 1, 2023
With the expansion of online study resources, it is much more likely that students today will spend hours on end browsing multiple websites to gather data. Thus it is essential that the students are able to maintain a record from all the sites that they have referred to during their reference. Xohoj aims to help users in this by allowing users to take notes from all their online resources; be it a video on a platform like udemy or youtube or an article on byjus; through an easy interface. Xohoj consists of a web-based dashboard and a handy browser extension. The browser extension allows the user to take notes, either by selecting text, adding screen grabs and time stamped video links or even typing from various sources. The user can thus easily bookmark resources and maintain records of the resources that they have referred to for a topic in a single platform. The extension will also allow the user to track the progress on various open courses for which the user receives certifications. The user can also use the dashboard for various utility purposes. The user can arrange their notes into more organized, readable formats using the dashboard. They can also review the resources that they have used for taking notes. They can track their progress on curated topics. The user can create a two-way sync for their notes to other platforms such as Notion or Obsidian which are widely used for note taking, or simply export to an easily accessible pdf. The platform will consist of various tools and functions that will help focus the browsing habits of students. Taking notes across multiple platforms, the students will be able to easily cross-refer to multiple resources and make the best use of their time and effort.
Red flags// Raising Climate Awareness for Swizerland
September 1, 2022 – September 1, 2022
“_Red Flags” _is an attempt to communicate the risks of Uncontrolled climate change to the general public. It is only when a person sees the red flags of uncontrolled climate change that they will truly understand the grim nature of their future. This project thus hopes to energize people to be more vocal in support of Climate Control. Background These are just some of the drastic changes that have taken place as an effect of climate change +2 °C rise in mean temp since 1864 200% more heat waves since 1901 60% decreased glacier Volume since 1850 60% decreased frost days since 1961 50%decreased snow days below 200m elevations since 1970 12% more intense heavy rainfall since 1901 About Us We are a group of students interested in climate research with experience in data science and web development. We love to goof around and come up with inane ideas. For once we decided to put our skills to good use and try to communicate the risks of climate change, raising the proverbial red flag for all to see. triangular_flag_on_posttriangular_flag_on_posttriangular_flag_on_posttriangular_flag_on_posttriangular_flag_on_post Features Map based spatial visualisation of various meteorological phenomenon Raising awareness through interactive media like climate awareness quiz Simplifying data for all to understand Techstack- Web: ReactJS * Language: JS * Map vis: MapBox * Charts: Recharts Data Processing: Python, Climate data operator(CDO) * Py libraries: netCDF, xarray, iris(scipy) * Bash scripting
