Semantics: theory, technologies, applications

I organized the workshop Semantics: theory technologies, applications. Semantics is the study of meaning and of the relation between the symbol and what it represents. In our modern information society, 90% of the information is transmitted in written or spoken language. Thus technologies capable of understanding the semantics of words have become increasingly important for the management, retrieval and analysis of such data. This workshop aims at tackling different aspects of semantics: theory, technologies and applications. The workshop will take place from 10 to 13 September and will feature well known experts of the field coming both from academia and industry: Johan Bos, Roberto Navigli, Mathieu d'Aquin, Massimiliano Ciaramita, Magnus Sahlgren, André Freitas, Bernardo Magnini and Adam Kilgarriff. The themes that will be discussed during the workshop are What is semantics? Philosophy, linguistics, lexicography Formal Semantics Distributional Semantics Semantic Networks Semantic Web Technologies Text Mining Information Retrieval Question Answering Multilinguality Big Data and Linked Data
