I founded VeryPC (https://very-pc.co.uk) in 2003 and Iceotope (https://iceotope.com) in 2007. Iceotope - liquid cooling for datacentres, HPC and AI – became my primary dedication in 2012. In 2019, I skied off a cliff at 49.8mph in Tahoe (California), this impacted not only my life – living in a wheelchair for nearly a year, but also my life’s aims after a number of near death moments. Shortly after learning to walk again, I rededicated my life to supporting founders in “having their shot” and took a partial exit from Iceotope to further this aim. One thing led to another, and Venture.Community (https://venture.community) was born, a society dedicated to the profession of entrepreneurship and venture. Which was formalised by a registration with the FCA in August ’24. This organisation is a society, a co-operative and a mutual, it operates venture acceleration and connects founders to secure investment in the early stages though an angel group and collaborations with other groups. It also helps other experienced entrepreneurs to accelerate and support the ventures and founders that they are mentoring. Atuin® (https://atuin.ventures) is a small family office for our work as a family, which mostly supports entrepreneurial activities. I chaired and venture-built two university spin-outs (BOW and Productive Machines) and secured them £8m in VC and Angel investments. To date I’ve actively sponsored and supported (as chair or Venture.Community lead Fellow) Productive Machines, BOW, Future Greens, TUBR and AddParts. Additionally I’ve made a number of angel investments, leading to a portfolio of 15 companies including VeryPC and Iceotope. My blog title is somewhat tongue in cheek, but the content is serious - "RockStarChairman.com" was named as a result of my venture building activity and my rock-and-roll frontman activities and famous karaoke tunes.
