Nucleus
May 1, 2011 – Present
Nucleus is a kernel which main purpose is to make intensive use of the most advance state-of-the-art C++ features to get the most elegant, flexible and scalable kernel design Porting the kernel on a new target should only be subject to a very few additions. The design philosophy of nucleus is: - rely as much as possible on C++ and its standard library. - make static everything known at compile-time. - use virtual classes only when polymorphism is needed at run-time; use generic programming otherwise - metaprogramming should be heavily used to build the kernel according to its configuration. We strongly believe that rich software designs highly increase software expressiveness, flexibility and scalability. The STL is the best illustration of such a design. To ensure this, nucleus is being developed in parallel on multiple architectures and platforms (x86, arm, ppc) to immediately observe the impacts of our design choices.

Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate has a diverse background spanning academia, large tech companies (Microsoft), and multiple startups (Span, Stealth Mode). This indicates an ability to thrive in various environments, from structured corporate settings to agile, high-growth startups. The entrepreneurial drive and interest in cutting-edge technology (C++ features, kernel design) suggest a proactive and innovative mindset. However, the recent career trajectory has been heavily focused on product leadership and entrepreneurship in consumer health, which is a significant pivot from the highly specialized FPGA development role. This might indicate a potential mismatch with a purely technical, hands-on FPGA development culture, unless the role involves significant architectural leadership or R&D.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate demonstrates strong leadership and entrepreneurial skills through co-founding and CEO roles. Experience at Microsoft and various EIR positions suggests adaptability and a product-oriented mindset. The teaching role indicates strong communication and mentorship capabilities. However, the recent focus on consumer health and product management might mean a shift away from deep technical hands-on FPGA development.
