Automated testing of RESTful APIs
March 1, 2017 – January 1, 2018
Software testing can be used to measure the degree in which certain software characteristics are present. Testing can be performed with different approaches and levels. In model based testing (MBT), a model is used to describe the System Under Test. This model can be used for automated test case generation. Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) provide a standardised way of accessing and utilising software components. RESTful APIs are APIs that are built based on REST and its underlying principles. Testing RESTful APIs can prove a tedious task as they can have states. Swagger is a widely-used framework allowing to design, document, and deploy RESTful APIs using the Swagger specification. JSXM is a model based testing tool built in Java that utilises a stream x-machines computational model in order to generate test cases from a specification. Currently, JSXM does not support an easy way to test RESTful APIs. Overall, the learning curve of utilising model-based testing tools is high. This paper investigates how RESTful APIs can automatically be tested by generating JSXM specification files from a Swagger specification. To do this, this project proposes that common scenarios of testing RESTful APIs should be modeled in JSXM specification files These files are then turned into templates which are dynamically filled by consulting Swagger specifications. This way RESTful APIs can be tested without requiring from the tester to create specification or implementation files.

A Visual Editor for modeling specifications in JSXM: A model based testing tool (Eclipse Plugin)
August 1, 2014 – June 1, 2015
This project aimed to build a user-friendly graphical editor for a model-based testing tool, that is JSXM. The purpose of the editor is to assist users in creating, editing and validating extended finite state machine specifications graphically. JSXM is a model based testing tool that utilises the Stream-X-Machines theory in order to generate test cases over a specification of a system. The way this speci- fication is modeled in JSXM is either through the use of XML or a dedicated visual editor. After examining the existing versions of the visual editor, it was identified that they do not offer a user-friendly environment in which users can create, edit and validate speci- fications graphically. Therefore, there is a need to extend further the implementations of the visual editor and solve the existing problems. For the realization of this project, the existing tools are investigated in depth and the appropriate software development process is selected. Following this, a design and implementation of the new editor is conducted and presented in details. The new editor is built based on user interface principles with the goal to enhance the task efficacy, understandability, ease of learning and ease of remembering factors. Based on the evaluation conducted over the delivered product, it can be observed that the aim and objectives of this project have been successfully addressed. Technologies Used: • JAVA • XML • XSD • Graphical Modeling Framework • Eclipse Modeling Framework • Graphical Editing Framework • Epsilon (Eclipse) • EuGENia • Epsilon Validation Language (EVL) • Epsilon Object Language (EOL) • Eclipse Plugin Development Environment • JDOM2

Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate has a diverse background working in various industries (AI/biometrics, wealth management, telecom, esports, betting, video-commerce, consulting, academia) and roles, from individual contributor to architect and co-founder. This breadth of experience suggests adaptability and a willingness to engage with different challenges and team structures. The focus on open-source contributions (jsxm.org) and conference involvement (DEVit) indicates a proactive and community-oriented mindset. However, the target role is 'Backend Engineer' while the recent experience is heavily skewed towards DevSecOps and Cloud Architecture, which might indicate a slight mismatch if the role requires deep application-level backend coding rather than infrastructure-focused backend engineering.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's extensive experience in leadership roles (Tech Lead, Solutions Architect, Staff Engineer, Co-founder) suggests strong soft skills in technical direction, cross-team enablement, and strategic planning. Their work on compliance and governance frameworks indicates a methodical and responsible operational fit. The descriptions highlight problem-solving and optimization capabilities.
