Nico received his PhD from the computer vision research department of the KU Leuven led by renowned professor Luc Van Gool during which time he received multiple awards, among which three of them from the top-tier conference CVPR. After graduation he joined spin-off GeoAutomation where he implemented GPU-accelerated image compression algorithms and developed software for dense point cloud recontruction from multiple synchronized video streams. He also worked in close collaboration with Toyota on self-driving car technology where he was responsible for the development of a custom Linux-based multithreaded GPU-central framework for the image processing pipeline involving camera calibration, AI processing, visualization and writing low level GPU code for a dense accurate depth-from-stereo routine for high resolution images. In 2007 he joined The Kobi Company as late Co-founder to advance and optimize self-driving technology on cheap embedded processors while maintaining high performance levels and to develop a robust state of the art sub-centimeter camera based localization system for autonomous lawn mowers from scratch.
