Machine Learning Engineering Leader • Ranking, Recommendations, Monetization
I've spent the last 15+ years building machine learning systems, most of it on ranking and recommendation, the rest split between research and infrastructure. Currently leading the ML team behind ad format and creative ranking at Meta, where we optimize what people see across the platform with deep learning models. Before this role I led ML at HackerRank during the early ChatGPT wave, built recruiting and search ranking systems at Meta, contributed to Schema Networks at Vicarious (acquired by Alphabet), and worked on Search Quality and Google Images at Google. Outside of work I'm an indie game developer (Swivel, on Meta Quest), a chess player, and a BJJ practitioner.

Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's career trajectory shows a strong inclination towards leadership and innovation, including founding an indie VR game studio. Their experience spans large corporations (Meta, Google) and startups (Dimensional Dilemma, Vicarious AI), indicating adaptability. However, the target role is 'Backend Engineer' while the candidate's recent experience is heavily focused on Machine Learning Engineering Management. This might represent a shift in career focus or a desire to return to a more hands-on backend role, which needs further exploration to assess cultural fit for a pure backend engineering position.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's experience as a Founder and Engineering Manager demonstrates strong leadership, strategic thinking, and project management skills. Their roles at Meta and HackerRank indicate an ability to drive technical initiatives and manage teams effectively. The description of leading ML teams and translating investment into business outcomes suggests strong operational fit for senior roles requiring both technical depth and business acumen.
