Applied Research Manager - BioFoundation Models at NVIDIA
I am currently a Senior AI and Deep Learning Scientist in Life Sciences and the Tech Lead for Clara Discovery / BioNeMo at NVIDIA. I lead a growing team of researchers and engineers who use use data, deep learning, and HPC to develop tools that accelerate drug discovery. A recent focus is BioNeMo, which includes the development of large language models for small molecules (e.g. MegaMolBART) and protein sequences. Previously I was a Senior Machine Learning Engineer and Data Scientist at BenevolentAI and a member of Arthur Palmer's research group where I developed and applied nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spin relaxation experiments to understand how enzyme dynamics are critical to biological function. I have experience with deep learning, data analysis, visualization, and compressed sensing. I'm proficient in Python and familiar with C. My scientific expertise includes nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, protein and RNA expression and purification, and other biochemical and biophysical techniques. ### Background Overview ### • Tech Lead for Clara Discovery / BioNeMo and Senior AI and Deep Learning Scientist, NVIDIA • Senior Machine Learning Engineer, BenevolentAI • Senior Deep Learning Consultant, NVIDIA • Senior Data Scientist, Metis • Scientist, National Cancer Institute • Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Columbia University • Consultant at The Boston Consulting Group • Ph.D. Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry, Yale University, New Haven, CT • M.Phil. Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's background is heavily focused on scientific research and deep learning in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. While this demonstrates a strong analytical and research-oriented mindset, the target role of 'Data Analyst' might be a step down in terms of technical depth and strategic impact compared to their recent managerial and research roles. The lack of diverse project experience outside of the bio/cheminformatics domain could indicate a narrower scope of application for data analysis skills. The extensive academic and research background suggests a preference for innovation and complex problem-solving, which may or may not align with typical data analyst responsibilities.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's career progression at NVIDIA from a Senior Deep Learning Scientist to an Applied Research Manager, along with managing a research group at NIH, indicates strong leadership, project management, and team collaboration skills. The consulting experience at BCG also suggests strong problem-solving and client-facing communication abilities. The detailed descriptions of research accomplishments and publications highlight a methodical and analytical approach to complex problems.
