I develop, and lead the development of AI and ML solutions to complex, real-world system problems. My expertise is in systems thinking, modeling, and design/architecture; AI, ML, energy, robotics, and optimization; data science and analysis; and technical leadership. My professional career has focused on autonomous driving, and the application of AI to renewable energy. I’ve held roles ranging from Individual Contributor (SW engineer / researcher) to Group Lead (typically 5-15 directs) to Technical Lead (50-100 indirects across multiple verticals), to Chief Engineer (leading 150+ engineers) to VP of Engineering. I am a strong believer in maintaining deep technical understanding of both the problem and potential solutions regardless of the role / level. I spend significant effort to stay up-to-date on AI and ML technologies and their applications. My degrees are in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning - specializing in reinforcement learning and modeling of probabilistic time series data. I then spent 18 years in the Autonomous Vehicle space with a focus on developing and deploying technical solutions to cutting edge problems - turning research or early-stage projects into production systems. For the past 3 years, I’ve been working on developing AI solutions to renewable energy and electricity distribution problems I’ve worked deeply in the following technical areas: - Perception and sensor processing - Control algorithms - Planning and decision making - Positioning, geographic information systems, and mapping - Weather modeling and weather sensors - AI for renewable energy - Control and optimization of electricity distribution systems and distributed energy resources - Autonomous vehicle fleet optimization and management - Large-scale data science, processing, and analysis to support risk analysis and deploymen

Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's career trajectory shows a strong inclination towards cutting-edge technology and innovation, particularly in AI/ML and autonomous systems. The transition from large corporate R&D (Toyota, Waymo) to a startup environment (Utilidata) and then to independent consulting (Phase Space LLC) demonstrates adaptability and an entrepreneurial spirit. However, the target role of 'Data Analyst' seems misaligned with the candidate's extensive senior leadership and architectural experience in AI/ML and engineering. While the candidate possesses strong analytical skills, the role might not fully leverage their strategic and leadership capabilities, potentially leading to a mismatch in expectations or underutilization of their advanced expertise. The breadth of skills is very high, but the diversity of projects is focused within AI/ML and autonomous systems, which is excellent for those domains but might be less diverse for a general 'Data Analyst' role.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's extensive leadership roles (VP Engineering, Chief Engineer, Team/Technical Lead, Founder) suggest strong soft skills in strategic planning, team management, cross-functional collaboration, and technical communication. The descriptions indicate a proactive approach to problem-solving and a capacity for driving innovation. The operational fit for a senior role is high given the breadth of experience in leading and executing complex technical initiatives.
