VP Carbon Solutions at Anglo American
I've always been excited about technology, everything from new materials, to computing. My wife maintains that I am a big nerd. One of the other passions I carried over from childhood was a love of flying. I naturally got my career started where technology and aviation meet, working as an engineer in the defence / aerospace sector. Various career and academic opportunities led me from aviation into automation, and later, mining. Working for Anglo American I've been lucky enough to spend my time working with some of the best technology teams in the world on projects ranging from automation, to data science, to carbon sequestration.

Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's career trajectory shows a strong commitment to long-term roles within large organizations (Anglo American, CSIR) and a focus on impactful, strategic initiatives (carbon solutions, Unreasonable mentorship). This suggests a fit for organizations that value stability, strategic vision, and problem-solving at a high level. However, the target role of 'Data Analyst' is a significant shift from recent VP/Head-level strategic roles, which might indicate a potential mismatch in day-to-day responsibilities and expectations for a hands-on analytical position.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's extensive experience in leadership roles (VP, Head of Data Science, Head of Carbon Mitigation Projects) suggests strong leadership, strategic thinking, and project management skills. The 'Unreasonable Mentor' role indicates a commitment to scaling impactful ventures and potentially strong mentorship and collaboration abilities. However, without specific project details or descriptions of how these roles involved direct data analysis, it's difficult to assess operational fit for a hands-on Data Analyst role.
