I am a people-centric technology leader; one who leans in to lead the wider business, both technically and operationally. You’ll read my job title, but it doesn’t cover the half of it. My skills extend way beyond, I have lived it, and my abilities are not contained within just technology, I am a true believer that tech shouldn’t repress people’s productivity and creativity but enhance it. My reach goes far and wide across the business working with all to find their individual brilliance and bring collaboration to the fore using technological solutions. Confident teams lead to competence and the ability to react to opportunities and ultimately drive increased turnover and profits. I have worked across almost all business sizes, but my best work is up to £50M SME, anything below, start-up, scale-up. I work horizontally and fast to bring technology to the masses within business. As an example, while working for an SME circa £20M I spotted a call centre agent who while off calls was experimenting with the application, when I asked him about it, he said “sorry I can’t help myself, I just fiddle”. I saw a gap and discussed this find with the MD as for me here was a potential software tester who knew our business, but l was met with resistance, “he’ll break the system”, “we’ll be out of a job within a week” not a typical reaction; rigorous testing should be a strength, not a threat. I took responsibility for the outcome and to this day, that system has been solid, helped by a good blob of ethical curiosity. My superpower is the ability to translate in plain English how technology will assist a business. Once I understand what a business strives for, I can translate this back to the technical teams to deliver coherent results.
