AI & ML Engineering Leader | Director of Applied Science | Agentic AI, Multimodal Deep Learning, Computer Vision, ML Ops | 13+ Patents | Scaled core ML 0 → $40M ARR
I'm an AI & ML engineering leader with 15 years of experience turning research into market-leading products and scaling the teams behind them. At Tractable I've led the evolution of AI platforms (ML Ops, Applied Science, Data) powering mission-critical insurance and automotive claims — establishing new industry benchmarks, expanding into 9+ markets, and fuelling ARR growth from $5M to $40M+. Most recently, I stepped back into a hands-on senior IC role to build first-hand fluency with coding agents and the engineering practices the agentic era now demands. 🔑 Core strengths: - Strategic leadership & organisational scaling — built teams of 30+ across R&D, ML Ops, and product, across UK, France, and Romania - AI research → enterprise products — 13+ patents, peer-reviewed publications, multiple new industry benchmarks - Agentic AI & next-gen ML engineering — agentic systems, context & harness engineering, multimodal pipelines (vision + lidar + ToF) at petabyte scale - Technical depth — computer vision, multimodal deep learning, distributed systems, ML Ops, LLM systems Passionate about AI in mission-critical domains — especially where AI moves beyond screens into the physical world.

Real-time image-based localisation in large-scale outdoor environments
April 1, 2015 – April 1, 2015
Supervised by Dr Michael Mangan. co-supervised by Pr. Margarita Chli. Used Simultaneous Tracking and Mapping methods (PTAM and ORB-SLAM) to accurately retrieve the pose of a monocular RGB camera in a large-scale outdoor environment. The target dataset is about tracking desert ants and exhibits several hard challenges including fast and erratic camera motion, top down view, featureless environment.
Reinforcement Learning based self-driving car simulation
March 1, 2015 – March 1, 2015
Implemented the learning hierarchically structured strategy paper to teach an agent to autonomously drive in a simplified outdoor environment (see Github).
Robotic arm motion planning simulation
February 1, 2015 – February 1, 2015
This project involved programming various target reaching behaviours on a Baxter robot simulation using C++ and VREP. The main goal of this project was to study the true dimensionality of a task in a highly dimensional space.
Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's career trajectory at Tractable, moving from Research Engineer to Director, shows strong loyalty and growth within a single organization, suggesting a good cultural fit for long-term commitment. Their involvement in expanding research operations, leading company-wide data consolidation, and establishing industry benchmarks indicates a drive for innovation and impact. The personal projects in reinforcement learning and robotics demonstrate a continuous learning mindset and passion for advanced technical challenges, aligning with a culture that values deep technical exploration. However, the projects are heavily focused on AI/ML/Robotics, and while relevant, the direct 'Backend Engineer' alignment needs further validation beyond the AI/ML infrastructure aspects.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate demonstrates strong leadership, team management, and communication skills through their progression into director-level roles and descriptions of building and scaling teams. Their experience in establishing engineering standards and driving organizational transformation indicates a proactive and influential operational fit. The focus on 'responsible AI' and 'analytical skills' further highlights a methodical and ethical approach to problem-solving.
