Pac-Maps
April 1, 2015 – May 1, 2015
The purpose of Pac-Maps is to create a game that allows the user to experience the flexibility of playing Pac-Man anywhere in the world. To do so, the user supplies either a URL or a street address. From there, my program will process the Google Maps image, first by using URL reformatting to contrast the image and make roads more pronounced. The program then converts the reformatted URL into an image. With this image, the program determines what is and is not a road. Those pixels that are road become one color, whereas non-road pixels become black. Next, a thinning algorithm makes every road one pixel wide, so that the directions of movement can be simplified. For the movement of both the Ghosts and Pac-Man, many recursive algorithms were implemented. One vital algorithm required for the PacMan at intersections was one to determine the road options. Since this project is pixel-based, intersections can become disordered and unique where roads of all different shapes and slopes could collide. This algorithm works across any possible combinations of roads and is able to map the keys to their respective road options. Similarly, I developed a Ghost AI that used DFS to find the different path options and to then choose the best to take to reach PacMan.
Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate has a strong background in fast-paced startup environments, which aligns well with a dynamic culture. The progression through various engineering roles and leadership positions demonstrates adaptability and a growth mindset. The personal project 'Pac-Maps' shows initiative and a passion for problem-solving outside of professional work. However, the lack of specific project details or technologies used in professional roles makes it difficult to fully assess the breadth of technical exposure and how it aligns with diverse team needs. The 'Co-Founder' role at MEGA with no end date and no description makes it hard to assess current engagement and commitment.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's progression from Software Engineer to Director of Engineering at Z League indicates strong leadership, project management, and team collaboration skills. The co-founder role at MEGA suggests entrepreneurial drive and strategic thinking. However, without psychometric test results, a detailed assessment of work attitude, stress handling, and specific team collaboration styles is not possible.
