AI/ML Engineer Building & Shipping Production-ready GenAI & Large Language Model Solutions Since Before ChatGPT.
I help organisations identify relevant Generative AI use cases and implement them in production. I've been working with Language Models a couple of years before ChatGPT arrived on the scene (BERT, T5, GPT-3). In previous roles as a Data Scientist and Machine Learning/ Artificial Intelligence engineer I've led teams to create AI products that meet business objectives. I am a trusted advisor and have developed solutions for various verticals including banking, healthcare, energy, telecoms, and travel and transport. I've also taught over 400,000 people about Generative AI and regularly speak at company town halls or provide AI training at organisations. If you and your team need my help, get in touch. Outside of work I spend time with my fabulous family, try and swim in the sea every day, and am actively involved in my local evangelical church.

Document classification and text extraction
October 1, 2024 – January 1, 2025
A UK insurance provider needed a reliable way to pull data from multiple document types. I developed a Microsoft Azure-based system that enhanced both accuracy (increase of +15% to over 99%) and scalability, ensuring a more efficient retrieval process. This allowed claims workers to spend less time correcting extracted data and more time on business-critical tasks.
Chat agent for travel company
July 1, 2024 – September 1, 2024
A European travel company struggled with high agent turnover, leading to inexperienced agents speaking with customers and spending considerable time looking up information during calls. As the AI engineer on the team, I helped create a RAG solution that retrieved relevant information from knowledge bases allowing them to respond more quickly to customer enquiries (information lookups when required during customer calls were reduced by 2+ minutes on average). The solution stack included a vector database, embedding models, LLMs, re-rankers and guard rails.
Article summaries for media firm
January 1, 2024 – March 1, 2024
A UK media outlet needed automated article summaries that aligned with their specific tone. I fine-tuned an LLM, ensuring the generated summaries matched their voice and were favoured 80% of the time over those from a non-tuned model.
Banking process automation using NLP
October 1, 2023 – December 1, 2023
A UK bank wanted to expedite low-risk client approvals by automating data retrieval. I implemented an automated document retrieval system that reduced manual review times by 10-15 minutes per case using NLP and a human-in-the-loop approach.
Predicting likelihood of water discoloration
May 1, 2021 – July 1, 2021
A UK water company was fined by regulators because of customer complaints after maintenance work. To help reduce fines, I created a machine learning model that would help predict if maintenance work was likely to lead to customer complaints based on historical data. The solution stack includes Python, scikit-learn and GIS software.
Computer Vision in retail store
March 1, 2021 – May 1, 2021
A retail company faced numerous liability claims due to in-store falls. I led a team to deploy a real-time computer vision model that detected fallen objects from live security cameras and triggered alerts for staff, preventing accidents.
Telecom data monetization
January 1, 2021 – March 1, 2021
A UK telecom operator wanted to monetize customer data through analytics-driven insights. Clients included companies that provide retail insights to investors e.g. footfall with demographic information at potential retail sites. I used an Apache Spark (PySpark) solution to retrieve and analyse the data allowing the business to create a new revenue stream hiring a New Business Director.
Predict unplanned healthcare demands
October 1, 2020 – January 1, 2021
A Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) were looking to predict unplanned demand from patients with 5+ chronic conditions. Using wearable tech and physiological data, I developed a machine learning model for the CCG to predict unplanned healthcare demand. The solution used Python and scikit-learn ML libraries.
