Hackathon "Les 24 des IUTs"
June 1, 2015 – Present
This event is divided in 3 different step, It started by a 8h long software programming challenge, the idea was to develop an AI that would play a game. After those 8 hours AI started to play again each other to find out who the winner of this step would be. Then 8h of web programming, during which I learned how to use Symfony. And finally, from 6am to 2pm after a sleepless night, 8h of small security challenges. We didn't win any thing this day, but it was a cool night during which I learned a lot about designing software architecture and how efficient it is to spend time on it. As a first year student in computer sciences it really changed the way I worked on my personal and school projects.
Hackathon "La nuit de l'info"
October 1, 2014 – Present
The idea of this hackathon is to create a website over a night. The project is revealed when the sun set, this year were about improving response during natural disaster. We designed an app' able to gather data related to the specific needs of people in a small area. Our backend were then tracking the importance of the signalement over time and worked with a front-end which was only an interactive map allowing end-users on the website to see what are the needs in an area as well as what are the area most commonly impacted by such or such incident. Our idea was to design a product to improve first response to an incident by allowing people to report their status by themselves. Considering it was our first hackathon ( = first project in total autonomy ) and that we were all first year student, we went quite far in this project, the android app and the API to connect to it was done. But most of the work left was related to UX both on the interactive map and the android app, as a consequence, since we didn't have any UX specialized student I don't think we'd have been able to deliver a complete product even with more time. Overall it was an interesting experience in term of team management and stress management, when the team is waiting for your feature at 4am after 8h of work in addition to their usual school day it certainly put a certain amount of pressure, and even if we didn't deliver a fully completed project it was a great experience.
Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's participation in hackathons and descriptions of learning experiences suggest a proactive, curious, and team-oriented individual. The involvement in defining domain boundaries and incident management work groups at PayFit indicates a willingness to contribute beyond immediate coding tasks and engage in broader organizational improvements. The transition from backend-heavy roles to expressing interest in frontend work aligns with adaptability. However, the primary experience is backend-focused, which might require a cultural adjustment to a dedicated frontend role.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's project descriptions highlight teamwork, stress management, and learning from challenges (hackathons). Involvement in incident management work groups suggests a proactive approach to operational excellence and a collaborative mindset. The 'scientist' approach to refactoring legacy code indicates a methodical and data-driven problem-solving skill.
