Building an Energy Business
I currently serve as CEO and General Partner of a behind the meter energy creation company for Industrial and Mission Critical Infrastructure solutions. We focus on grid-independent, renewable energy and cooling solutions across US Commercial, US Federal Government and GCC regions. I previously was Partner Vice President & Head of Growth for Microsoft’s Strategic Missions and Technologies division, a team dedicated to pioneering next-generation technology solutions. Our portfolio includes empowering telecommunications providers with advanced capabilities, connecting the cloud to space through cutting-edge satellite integration, driving scalable and accessible quantum computing research, and partnering with the U.S. Federal Government to enable mission-critical digital transformation across defense, intelligence, and civilian agencies. With over 25 years at Microsoft in roles spanning Global CTO for Data & AI, and GM/COO of the US Cloud & Enterprise, I've led technical strategy and innovation at scale, fueling growth for global organizations through deep technical insight and high-impact execution. Beyond my current role, I’m passionate about nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship. I actively advise early-stage and growth-stage startups, offering guidance on technology strategy, organizational scaling, and market differentiation. These advisory roles allow me to stay close to emerging trends, mentor bold founders, and support the next generation of transformative companies. As a father of three, I’m equally committed to education and how technology can reshape the way we teach and learn. My wife and I share a love of travel, the outdoors, and sustainability. If I’m not at work, you’ll likely find me hiking in the Adirondacks, playing tennis with friends, or tapping maple trees in the Catskills with my family to make our own syrup.

Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's career trajectory shows a strong entrepreneurial spirit, with multiple CEO/Co-Founder roles and advisory positions in startups. Their extensive involvement with university boards (UVA School of Data Science, UVA Engineering) and leading AI task forces indicates a commitment to education, innovation, and community engagement. This suggests a proactive, leadership-oriented individual who values strategic impact and growth. The shift from deep technical roles at Microsoft to executive and investment roles indicates a broad interest beyond pure engineering, which might align well with organizations seeking technical leaders with business acumen, but less so with a pure individual contributor backend engineering role.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's resume highlights significant leadership, strategic planning, and business development skills. Their roles as CEO, CCO, and various Partner VP/GM positions at Microsoft demonstrate strong operational acumen, team leadership, and the ability to drive large-scale initiatives. The descriptions suggest a focus on growth, execution, and customer engagement. However, direct evidence of day-to-day backend engineering soft skills like collaborative coding, detailed technical problem-solving in a team, or agile development participation is not explicitly detailed in the provided experience descriptions, which are more high-level and strategic.
