Many students enter college lacking the study skills to get off to a good start. One of the most common problems sited by both students and teachers is struggling student not knowing how to effectively study for tests. Many students will simply read, and re-read the chapters they've been assigned. Pearson Prep is a product designed to address exactly that problem. Pearson Prep is a mobile app and a web plugin that allow students access to pre-made expert authored decks of flashcards that are aligned to their courses. It also allows them to add new cards or create their own decks from readings in their textbook or anywhere on the internet. Pearson Prep adds value by using Natural Language Processing to transform text students highlight into flashcards they can study later. It also uses behavior science to help student start studying earlier and more frequently. It even measures students mastery of each card to deliver a personalized study experience that will give them the most efficient use of their time. I developed the Natural Language Processing algorithms in this project and worked with software developers to implement them in a web and mobile framework. I also presented the findings and methods we developed as this product grew from proof of concept to prototype to a product in the app store.

The Bedford Research Foundation had access to a unique population of men through our ability to provide invitro fertilization services to men who are HIV positive. We began a project to look at the trends of virus prevalence compared to other serology indicators. I was responsible for determining these trends and the statistical significance they held.
Remote Monitoring of Micro Algae Cultures
September 1, 2008 – December 1, 2008
Only a small fraction of the over 300 types of micro algae in the world have been studied. The major bottle neck for the research is the ability to effectively and repeatably culture a variety of diverse strains. I developed a system to remotely monitor and control the growth conditions of micro algae cultures.
