Fractional CTO & Tech Consultant | Guiding non‑technical founders & startups to scale without tech chaos | IT governance & leadership
Are you a non‑technical founder, SaaS leader, or startup with a great product but a messy tech stack? You’re not alone. I’ve spent more than thirty years moving between code and boardrooms, turning technology pain into profit by listening first and building second. These days I serve as a fractional CTO and tech consultant for growing businesses. I map budgets, calm vendor chaos, lead cloud migrations, coach agile teams and build governance frameworks so you can scale without drama. My clients call me when tech feels overwhelming. I translate board‑level vision into tasks your developers can finish by lunch. If you’d like to turn technology from a headache into a growth engine, let’s talk. Send me a message or book a 20‑minute call and see how calm tech leadership can change your business.

Secure Backup Implementation for MER Solutions' Microsoft 365 Data
June 1, 2022 – July 1, 2022
In June 2022, I spearheaded a critical project at MER Solutions to enhance data security and reliability. Recognising the need for a robust backup solution for our Microsoft 365 data, including Exchange email accounts, OneDrive user accounts, and SharePoint sites, I led the initiative to develop and implement a secure backup strategy. The core of this project involved the strategic installation of Veeam Backup for AWS. By deploying Veeam on an Amazon EC2 instance, we established an efficient and secure system to back up our Microsoft 365 data directly to Amazon S3 storage. This innovative approach not only ensured the safety and integrity of our data but also enhanced our data management capabilities. The successful implementation of this project now allows for daily backups of all our MS365 data, significantly reducing the risk of data loss and ensuring business continuity. This project stands as a testament to our commitment to data security and operational resilience, aligning with the latest industry best practices. Key Achievements: - Successfully deployed Veeam Backup for AWS on an Amazon EC2 instance. - Established a secure and automated daily backup process for all Microsoft 365 data. - Enhanced data security and business continuity for MER Solutions.
Digital Transformation at MER Solutions
February 1, 2022 – February 1, 2023
🚀 Digital Transformation Journey: Charting New Waters with Technology Excellence 🌊⚙️ Hello, LinkedIn community! I was thrilled to embark on an exciting digital transformation project with a maritime engineering company, and I'd like to take you on this voyage with me. 🌐💡 🔹 Project Overview 🔹 Our mission was to transform this maritime engineering company into a beacon of technological excellence, ensuring that it stayed ahead of the industry curve while maintaining its commitment to safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. 📊 Key Focus Areas 🌟 1. IT Governance with COBIT: We established robust IT governance practices based on COBIT, ensuring that technology investments aligned with business objectives, risks were managed effectively, and compliance was maintained. 2. MS365 Administration: We harnessed the power of Microsoft 365 to streamline operations, enhance collaboration, and enable remote work capabilities, all while ensuring data security and compliance. 3. ITIL Service Desk: Our ITIL-based service desk acted as a central hub for addressing IT incidents and service requests swiftly and efficiently, minimising downtime and maximising user satisfaction. 4. Policies and Procedures: We developed and implemented clear IT policies and procedures, fostering a culture of compliance and security awareness throughout the organisation. 5. Vendor Outsourcing: Leveraging strategic vendor partnerships, we optimised IT resource allocation, reduced costs, and enhanced service delivery. 6. Project Management Excellence: Every aspect of this transformation was managed with precision using proven project management methodologies, ensuring on-time and within-budget delivery.
Leadership Growth Program
November 1, 2021 – December 1, 2021
As Head of Technology at BusinessNav, I led a Leadership Growth Program during our expansion. The program's highlights: 1. Objectives: Established goals to develop leadership within our team, especially for key roles like Technology Manager and Scrum Master, aligning with business growth. 2. Candidate Selection: Choose leaders from within and outside the company, focusing on technical and soft skills. 3. Training: Conducted custom training in IT management, lean software, and Scrum, including workshops and seminars. 4. Mentorship: Launched a mentorship program with IT and Agile mentors, promoting knowledge sharing. 5. Practical Challenges: Introduced real-world projects for candidates to lead teams and manage IT projects, developing their leadership styles. 6. Feedback: Ensured regular, constructive feedback from mentors and peers. 7. Culture Alignment: Aligned the program with our company culture, prioritising continuous learning and Agile practices. 8. Review and Improvement: Conducted post-program reviews for continual refinement. This initiative was pivotal in our growth phase, effectively filling leadership roles and building a future-ready leadership team.
Digital Transformation at BusinessNav
May 1, 2021 – February 1, 2022
A pivotal project from my role as Head of Technology at BusinessNav, where we redefined digital transformation in financial advisory. 🚀 The Challenge: As Head of Technology, I led a transformative journey at BusinessNav, aligning technology with business goals. 🔍 Step 1: IT Governance: We established robust IT governance using COBIT, crafting a digital roadmap for peak performance. 🤝 Step 2: Collaboration: Collaborative sessions bridged the tech-business gap, making technology an accessible ally for every team. 🔎 Step 3: Audit and Optimisation: A deep dive into our ecosystem led to pivotal changes, bolstering security without hampering productivity. 💡 Step 4: Customer Service Desk: We transformed tech support into a gateway to customer satisfaction, drawing on ITIL expertise. 🌐 Step 5: Marketing and Project Management: Fine-tuning project management and fortifying client-facing platforms completed the transformation. This project wasn't just about tech upgrades; it was about cultivating a culture where technology and business strategies converge harmoniously. By the project end, BusinessNav wasn't just digitally transformed; it was digitally empowered. As I reflect on this journey, the lessons learned and the successes achieved underscore the transformative power of technology when aligned with business vision. It's about how we use tools to chart a course to success.
The Intern Bench
January 1, 2021 – January 1, 2022
BusinessNav - "The Intern Bench," inspired by the sports world, where emerging talents await their turn to shine. 🚀 The Concept: At BusinessNav, we created our "Intern Bench" to nurture our development dream team. 💡 How It Worked: 1. Promoting the Internship Program: We collaborated with our HR Manager to reach local universities and colleges, promoting our Software Developer Internship Program as a talent incubator. 2. The 'Interview' Process: We conducted unique 'interviews' with soon-to-graduate students. It was a practice ground for CV writing, interview techniques, and discussing projects. A mutual exchange of growth. 3. Constructive Feedback: We provided feedback to students and teachers, aiming to foster continuous improvement. 4. The Internship Program: Interns spent one unpaid month as full-time employees, engaging in Pair Programming and becoming part of Scrum Teams. They attended meetings and contributed actively. 5. Mentoring Sessions: I conducted one-on-one mentoring sessions with each intern twice a week, ensuring personalised guidance. 6. Feedback Loops: Weekly feedback sessions resembled Sprint Retrospectives, enabling continuous program refinement. 7. Progress Discussions: After the first month, HR and I individually met interns to gather insights for process enhancement. 8. Paid Internships: Most interns received five-month paid internships, setting personal Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) on day one. 9. Progress Tracking: Monthly catch-ups allowed us to monitor their progress, provide guidance, and address challenges. 10. Path to Full-Time Roles: After six months, most interns received full-time job offers, reflecting the success of their journey. The Intern Bench was more than an internship program; it was a dynamic platform for nurturing future tech talent. It exemplified our commitment to growth, learning, and the belief that with the right opportunities and mentorship, emerging talents can become industry leaders.
Agile Project Management Mentoring
January 1, 2020 – January 1, 2022
In the bustling world of IT management, the journey towards mastering Agile and Scrum often resembles a challenging trek through uncharted territories. Recognising this, I embarked on a passionate endeavour: mentoring project managers in the intricate art of Agile methodologies. From 2020 to 2022, armed with my expertise as a certified Scrum Master and seasoned Agile coach, I provided remote mentoring to emerging talents in project management. Utilising platforms like Facebook Messenger and Zoom, I created an interactive and supportive environment where knowledge could flow seamlessly across continents. My approach was straightforward yet empathetic. I knew that many project managers found themselves at crossroads, especially those with limited exposure to Agile practices. Through one-on-one sessions and group discussions, we dissected complex Agile concepts, transforming them into practical strategies tailored to real-world scenarios. Imagine translating the intricacies of Scrum into digestible, actionable steps, much like demystifying a complex algorithm into a series of logical, manageable codes. What made this journey truly rewarding was the mutual learning experience. Each mentoring session was not just a lecture but a dialogue, where I gained invaluable insights from the diverse perspectives and experiences of those I mentored. This two-way street of learning reinforced my belief in continuous growth and adaptation - core tenets of Agile philosophy. This project was more than a series of mentoring sessions; it was a collaborative expedition towards agility and excellence in project management. It underscored the transformative power of shared knowledge and the pivotal role of mentorship in navigating the ever-evolving landscape of IT management.

Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's project diversity, ranging from digital transformation in maritime engineering to fintech and e-commerce, indicates adaptability and a broad understanding of different business contexts. Their involvement in mentoring and leadership development programs suggests a commitment to team growth and a collaborative culture. However, while 'Web3' is mentioned once in their experience, the majority of their projects and skills lean heavily towards traditional IT management, digital transformation, and web development, rather than deep, hands-on Web3 development. This might indicate a potential gap in direct cultural fit for a pure Web3 developer role, which often requires a strong passion and extensive practical experience in decentralized technologies.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate demonstrates strong leadership, mentoring, strategic thinking, and stakeholder management skills through various roles and projects. Their experience in establishing IT governance, managing change, and fostering collaboration indicates a solid operational fit for senior technical leadership positions. The candidate's extensive experience in project management and team leadership suggests an ability to drive technical initiatives and manage complex projects effectively.
