Dream, Build, Scale, Repeat
I began my career as an engineer in video games, building computer graphics, tinkering with animation, programming physics engines that frequently broke the laws of nature, and dabbling in networking and AI before it was cool. From there I dove head-first into the great “search wars,” spending time at Yahoo and Microsoft. At Microsoft, I led the engineering team behind Catapult, a project that essentially strapped hardware boosters (programmable FPGAs) onto cloud CPUs and pushed them to compute faster. I then spent seven years reimagining brick-and-mortar retail at Amazon, first with Amazon Go and later Dash Carts. Along the way, I built high-performing teams of 800+ people across 15+ job roles and helped incubate, launch, and scale computer vision and AI systems that graduated from scrappy prototypes to production deployments across hundreds of stores in multiple countries without burning anything down. Now I’m reinventing supply chains through AI and Agents at Auger. I thrive in ambiguity. In fact, if a problem doesn’t come with at least an 80% chance of failure, I question whether it’s worth getting out of bed for. My career has been shaped, and occasionally decorated by chasing the undefined, and I don’t plan to stop anytime soon.

Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's career path demonstrates a strong inclination towards innovation, building new products/platforms, and working on challenging, cutting-edge technologies (AI, Computer Vision, Agentic AI). Their experience spans large corporations and startups, indicating adaptability. The focus on AI and data-driven solutions aligns well with modern tech culture. However, the target role is 'Backend Engineer' while the candidate's recent roles are predominantly senior leadership/chief scientist positions. This might indicate a potential mismatch in day-to-day responsibilities and expectations, as the candidate's experience is heavily skewed towards strategic and managerial aspects rather than hands-on backend engineering. The breadth of experience across different domains (gaming, search, e-commerce, AI/ML) shows versatility.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's extensive experience in leadership roles (Director, VP, Chief Scientist, General Manager) at prominent companies suggests strong leadership, strategic thinking, and operational management skills. Their descriptions highlight problem-solving, innovation, and the ability to drive complex projects from conception to production. The co-founder role also indicates entrepreneurial drive and product vision. While direct soft skill assessments are not available, the career trajectory implies strong communication, team building, and stakeholder management abilities.
