Machine Learning engineer; Mandarin student
My fascination has always been the ease with which humans can process information, and how difficult it is to reproduce such prowess in technical applications. During my PhD research, I have focused on integrating these two areas, investigating human information processing and applying the knowledge gained in technical applications. In the years following, I moved to industry and applied my knowledge of data processing, pattern recognition and machine learning in practical applications. Focus: more intelligent processing of (large) datasets, in areas like text processing, sound processing, and financial data. Human cognitive abilities continue to be a source of inspiration for me. I am also interested in languages, both in their own right and as an example of human information processing. My PhD research combined the two: automatic processing of Dutch sign language. Around the same time, I became interested in Chinese language and culture and started learning Mandarin in my spare time.

Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's diverse project experience, ranging from academic research to industry applications in AI/ML, suggests adaptability. Their roles as Team Lead indicate a collaborative and leadership-oriented approach. The long tenure at Slimmer AI/Sentinels shows commitment. However, the target role of 'Data Analyst' might be a step down from their 'Machine Learning Specialist/Engineer' and 'Team Lead' roles, potentially indicating a mismatch in career trajectory or a desire for a different focus. The extensive academic background and research focus might lean more towards R&D than typical data analysis operations.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate demonstrates strong leadership and project management skills from their Team Lead roles. Experience in customer contact and drafting project proposals indicates good communication and stakeholder management. The academic background suggests a research-oriented and analytical mindset, which is beneficial for complex data analysis tasks. However, specific operational fit for a pure Data Analyst role (e.g., dashboarding, advanced SQL for reporting) is not explicitly detailed.
