DeepChat

Tech used: Huggingface, PyTorch DeepChat is a project to create a simple to use chatbot framework that you can start chatting with right away or use its core classes to help build your own system. Right now it uses Huggingface as the model backend due to its ease of use and wide range of pretrained models to work with. Future work will allow for more generalized usage with other chatbot models that may or may not be part of the Huggingface ecosystem. It is still very early in development and only supports the DialoGPT model but more will be added very soon as I build out the core functionality.
JIRA Data Migration.
August 1, 2012 – December 1, 2012
Webtrends was switching to JIRA as their new bug tracking system and needed to migrate around 12,000 tickets to JIRA. The process involved writing python scripts to to wrap SOAP and RESTful web-service calls between the new and old system so as to automate the data migration process. The scripts migrated all pertinent ticket information from the old system and the created new tickets in JIRA with the original data, attachments, dates, and comment history as seen in the old system. Further work was done to manually update the JIRA database for any data that would not be easily migrated using SOAP or REST calls. Scripts had to maintain data integrity for both the ticket information and backing databases as well as not interrupt the engineering departments ability to use JIRA while the migration process was happening. Used opensource frameworks such as the JIRA python library, Suds, and Pyodbc to create migration scripts.
Object Detection and Recognition in Natural Settings
September 1, 2011 – November 1, 2012
Thesis project for completion of my Masters in Computer Science. Developed python code to test a computer vision algorithms ability to recognize and detect objects in images taken in natural settings (on the side of the street). This was partially an extension and testing of the GLIMPSE project (https://github.com/mthomure/glimpse-project) to see how well GLIMPSE performed at detection and recognition tasks compared to the StreetScenes vision system from MIT. Project code is still in ongoing development for updates and optimizations.
PubMed Document Classifier
September 1, 2009 – April 1, 2010
Worked with the PRISE research group at University of Washington Tacoma on a series of projects working on Ranked Retrieval of biomedical documents and classification of biomedical documents for protein to protein interactions. The goal of the document classifier was to develop a filter for the larger PRISE system that would rank documents by the likelihood that a PubMed article was discussing protein to protein interactions. Developed code in Java that would perform a Naive Bayes classification using terms in the document as features to test for. A large corpora of terms was first mined out of a data set of biomedical documents and used to extract key terms that were then compared with the documents from PubMed. TF-IDF scores and Naive Bayes probabilities were used as the main scoring function to rank the documents likelihood.

Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's project diversity, ranging from chatbot frameworks to JIRA data migration and computer vision, indicates a broad interest and adaptability. Their extensive experience across various roles (Software Engineer, Data Science Engineer, Senior ML Scientist, Senior AI Scientist) within the same company (Cambia Health Solutions) suggests loyalty and growth potential. The focus on healthcare in recent roles aligns with impact-driven environments. However, the target role is 'Big Data Engineer' while recent experience leans heavily into AI/ML, which might require a slight shift in focus or indicate a broader skill set than strictly Big Data engineering.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's experience descriptions highlight leadership in AI/ML projects, mentoring other developers, and bringing modern development practices to organizations, suggesting strong operational fit and collaborative soft skills. The project descriptions also indicate a proactive approach to problem-solving and system improvement.
