EU and Global Data and AI Governance
Data, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI) can accelerate the attainment of national goals and global commitments such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and can advance human and child rights. When used well. When used badly, we will experience the exact opposite outcomes. Currently and as a community, we are at a crossroads. At UNICEF, I lead efforts to guide the use of data and data technologies to advance human and child rights across UNICEF representation in over 190 countries, including global data strategy and policy development, workforce development for the digital and data future, and advocacy.

Panel discussions, talks, and mentoring on career opportunities outside academia and the switch from academia to data science
November 1, 2014 – Present
I participated in panels at NYU and MSKCC on careers outside academia, careers in data science, and the switch from academia to data science. I presented at the Metis Data Science Bootcamp on data science in health care and I continue to provide advice to academics interested in non-academic careers and aspiring data scientists, giving back the helpful advice I received when I needed it.
Conference on Cue Integration 2013
September 1, 2013 – Present
How do we combine information from multiple sense, for example, vision and touch? My colleagues and I organised a conference on this question in London, UK. We developed the program, invited speakers well known in the field, obtained funding, and took care of general logistics.

I review articles submitted for publication to journals like Psychological Science, Journal of Vision, and Computational Biology. I critique manuscripts and advice editors.
Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's extensive work with international organizations (UNICEF, United Nations, USA for UNHCR) and involvement in AI ethics and digital governance initiatives suggest a strong alignment with mission-driven environments and a focus on responsible data practices. The diversity of projects, from academic research to applied data science and policy, indicates a broad intellectual curiosity and ability to adapt to different organizational cultures. The mentoring and volunteer work demonstrate a commitment to community and knowledge sharing. However, the target role of 'Data Analyst' might be a step down from their recent leadership roles in data strategy and governance, potentially leading to a mismatch in expectations regarding day-to-day responsibilities and strategic influence.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's experience in organizing conferences, participating in panels, mentoring, and reviewing articles suggests strong communication, leadership, and critical thinking skills. Roles involving policy analysis and strategic advising indicate an ability to operate at a high level, influencing data-related decisions and processes. The transition from academia to data science, and subsequent leadership roles, demonstrates adaptability and a proactive approach to career development. The involvement in various advisory boards highlights a collaborative and influential operational style.
