Thistle Gulch
January 1, 2022 – Present
At launch, the heart of Thistle Gulch is a hand-crafted "Old-Western Town” by the same name, featuring over 15 unique characters each with their own backstories and a gripping scenario where the local sheriff investigates a mysterious murder. Designed for creators, researchers, and AI enthusiasts alike, our simulation platform offers unprecedented control over the narrative and character interactions through a powerful Python API. This allows for deep customization of AI decision-making processes and conversation generation. Whether you're looking to simulate social interactions, or explore the boundaries of AI-driven storytelling, our goal is to offer the tools and flexibility to bring your visions, and these AI characters, to life.
Spacewalk HDVR - An Android VR Application
January 1, 2015 – Present
[C#, Unity, Blender, Android] This was a really fun project and was my first VR app I created shortly after Google Cardboard was released. It features a 3D 360 degree vista of earth from outside the space station. I learned a lot about 3D modeling in blender, VR, and game creation in Unity. I actually pitched a fork of this to Zedd's (Music Artist) manager in 2015! That version included an MMU (jetpack) where you could fly through portals that could take you to other visas like the setting/rising sun, dark side of the earth, and even the moon.
XBee Remote Controlled Robot - 1/2 mile range.
June 1, 2013 – Present
[XBee, C, Arduino] I built this using an arduino, motor controller, and a couple Xbee/Zigbee radios. These radios can transmit up to 1/2 a mile away! The radio sent strings of bytes that represented directions on the keyboard (a-w-s-d), which code on the ardunio then translated to the motors. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nu41P5-GaJk
Gesture Controller for AR Drone using Kinect
January 1, 2013 – Present
[Kinect, Processing] This was a project we did as part of the Robotics Club that I founded. I worked on using openni driver for a Microsoft Kinect to read the pose estimation of the hands relative to the shoulders and Adam Simone worked on using Processing to draw 3D graphics onto the screen so the user could see what their hand gestures would do. Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's diverse background, including military service, founding multiple companies, and leading product/engineering teams, suggests a highly adaptable and driven individual. Their involvement in open-source projects and academic contributions (SAGA paper, Faces4Coco) indicates a collaborative and knowledge-sharing mindset. The range of personal projects, from VR to robotics, shows a passion for technology and continuous learning, which would be a strong cultural fit for an innovative ML environment. The transition from biology to computer science and AI also highlights a strong capacity for learning and pivoting.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's experience as a CTO, Lead ML Engineer, and Founder indicates strong leadership, strategic thinking, and product ownership. Their history of founding a robotics club and leading hackathon teams suggests initiative and collaboration. The military background implies discipline, resilience, and strong team leadership. The diverse project portfolio, including VR, robotics, and IoT, demonstrates adaptability and a broad technical curiosity.
