CEO of A2SV - Africa to Silicon Valley | Founder on a Mission | Empowering Africa’s Top Tech Talent | Building Digital Solutions & Connecting Graduates with Global Leaders
If you’ve ever been to Africa, you know it’s the motherland of brilliant youth with immense potential to develop software and thrive in the digital global economy. After working as a software engineer at Google and Palantir and as a machine learning engineer at Liftoff for 8 years in Silicon Valley, I decided to spend 6 months in Ethiopia training students—and that experience changed my life. Despite the challenges these students face daily, the potential impact I saw in some of these young software developers was mind-blowing—and that’s why I founded A2SV. A2SV is a nonprofit tech academy and incubator that upskills high-potential African university students, connects them to opportunities at the world’s top tech companies, and supports them in building digital solutions to address urgent challenges across Africa. Here are our key accomplishments: ✅ In 5 years, our students have received more than 100 job offers from companies like Google, Amazon, LinkedIn, Databricks, Palantir, and Bloomberg. In 2022, our students achieved a 70% acceptance rate in Google software engineering interviews, where the average acceptance rate is just 2%. ✅ In 2024, we organized the biggest hackathon on the African continent, focused on AI for impact. The A2SV Hackathon attracted over 4900 participants from 48 countries across Africa, fostering collaboration, learning, and innovation in solving real-world challenges. ✅ We are building a global talent marketplace to help our top-notch African software engineers connect with companies around the world, offering their skills for impactful projects. How can you help? I’m currently based in Africa, working on the ground with my team, and we’re looking for investors, donors, and strategic introductions. 🔎 We urgently need more funding to sustain and scale our operations. 🔎 We’re looking to connect with to

A2SV Generative AI for Africa Hackathon
August 1, 2023 – November 1, 2023
In 2023, A2SV recognized talent in the African context and that a lot of students have ideas and projects they are working on but no sufficient resources to make them seen. This is partly why we organized the largest hackathon in Africa to give thousands of students a chance to be heard and seen. The A2SV Generative AI for Africa Hackathon had over 3700 participants from 47 African countries who came together, not to just compete, but to learn from each other, to share ideas, and to build solutions that reflect the diverse challenges and potentials of our continent. We made it a multi-stage hackathon, running from August to November, to provide more depth on innovation, ideation, and workshops on generative AI. This hackathon was the biggest in Africa in numbers and impact. The top 9 teams who made it through the very competitive quarter and semi-finals, joined us in person in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the grand finale and US$ 30,000 prize pool. The energy, passion, and creativity were truly inspiring and posed a challenge for us as an organization, pushing us to prepare for more significant events and broader impact.
Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's background shows a strong drive for impact, particularly in developing tech talent in Africa through A2SV. This demonstrates a mission-driven approach and a commitment to community development. The diversity of roles, from research to engineering to entrepreneurship, indicates adaptability and a broad interest in technology. However, the target role is 'Data Analyst', and while the candidate has strong technical skills, the recent focus on leadership and entrepreneurship might suggest a different career trajectory or a need to re-engage with hands-on data analysis tasks. The project 'A2SV Generative AI for Africa Hackathon' is an organizational effort, not a personal data analysis project, which limits insight into direct data analyst cultural fit.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's entrepreneurial and leadership roles suggest strong initiative, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills. Experience as a guest lecturer indicates good communication and mentorship abilities. The descriptions of projects and roles are clear and well-articulated, suggesting effective communication. However, the provided data does not include specific psychometric test results to fully assess work attitude, stress handling, or team collaboration.
