Senior AI Engineering Manager – Head of AI Platforms at Bloomberg
I am the global head of the AI Platforms division in Bloomberg Engineering and lead 10+ groups of researchers and engineers that are responsible for all key AI, NLP, ML, LLM, Search, and Data platforms used across the company. Before this I was responsible for all search, question answering, and discovery functionalities in Bloomberg ENG AI, employing all of Bloomberg’s data sources, including companies, people, functions, fields, financial instruments, geographic locations, and the Bloomberg Knowledge Graph to enable Bloomberg users to ask complex questions and issue complex commands in natural language. I am also a senior scientist with a background in artificial intelligence, information retrieval, natural language processing, machine learning, large-scale computing infrastructures, knowledge graphs, and semantic search. I have 110+ publications in top international venues, have been cited by researchers more than 2,000 times, and am a (Senior) Program Committee member of virtually every major conference in the field, including The Web Conference, WSDM, SIGIR, CIKM, KDD, AAAI, ACL, and EMNLP. I am a member of the editorial board of the Information Retrieval Journal, and have taught several tutorials and organized various workshops on knowledge graphs, entity linking, and semantic search at top-tier conferences. I have also served as sponsorship co-chair for The Web Conference, ECIR, and ICAIF, and as co-chair for the Industry Track (SIRIP) for SIGIR 2024. I hold a PhD in computer science from the University of Amsterdam and have an extensive track record in knowledge graphs, information retrieval, natural language processing, and machine learning. Before joining Bloomberg, I worked at Yahoo Labs on all aspects related to entities in the context of web search. C++, Perl (yes, Perl!), Python

TREC Knowledge Base Acceleration
September 1, 2012 – March 1, 2013
TREC Knowledge Base Acceleration (KBA) seeks to help humans expand knowledge bases like Wikipedia by automatically recommending edits based on incoming content streams. For the first year, systems are evaluated on a single task: filter a stream of content for information that should be linked to from a given Wikipedia page.
Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's background shows a strong inclination towards research and development in AI/ML, particularly in information retrieval and knowledge graphs. Their long tenure at Bloomberg and Yahoo, coupled with academic pursuits, suggests a preference for intellectually stimulating environments focused on innovation. The project 'TREC Knowledge Base Acceleration' aligns with open-source contributions and collaborative research, indicating a good cultural fit for organizations valuing continuous learning and contribution. However, the target role 'Data Analyst' might be a step down from their extensive leadership and research background, potentially leading to a mismatch in expectations or scope.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate demonstrates strong leadership, team management, mentoring, and communication skills through their extensive experience at Bloomberg and Yahoo. Their roles involved leading cross-functional teams, coaching, and technical design, indicating a high operational fit for roles requiring collaboration and strategic thinking. The teaching experience also highlights strong communication and mentoring abilities.
