CyberSec Director & CISO Dutch Railways | NCSC Advisory Board | Chair CISO Platform NL | Ambassador Global Council of Responsible AI | Awarded Cyber&AI Advisor/Author/Lecturer/Speaker | LinkedIn TopVoice | Angel Investor
For more than three decades I have been leading complex transformations at the intersection of technology, operations and organisational change. Throughout my career I have served as CIO, CTO, CISO, Program Director and executive leader across critical infrastructure, telecommunications, financial services, government, science networks and international organisations. My focus has never been technology itself, but helping organisations navigate complexity, execute change and build long-term resilience. Today I serve as Director Digital Resilience at Dutch Railways, one of the largest critical infrastructure organisations in the Netherlands. Together with an exceptional team, we built new capabilities, scaled the organisation, strengthened governance and supported major transformation initiatives in an increasingly volatile geopolitical and digital landscape. Earlier executive assignments included leadership roles at Athlon, ASML, GÉANT, the Dutch Chamber of Commerce and numerous large-scale transformation programmes across Europe. Beyond my executive responsibilities, I contribute to several national and international initiatives focused on resilience, technology governance and public-private collaboration. I serve on the Advisory Board of the Dutch National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), chair the Dutch CISO Platform, co-chair both the Dutch and European Rail ISACs and am involved with the Global Council for Responsible AI. The coming decade will be defined by the ability of organisations to adapt. Digital transformation, artificial intelligence, geopolitical uncertainty, supply chain dependencies and societal expectations are reshaping how organisations create value and maintain trust. My professional interest lies in helping organisations bridge technology, operations, governance and leadership. The most resilient organisations are rarely those with the best

Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's diverse experience across public and private sectors, coupled with advisory roles in various organizations, indicates adaptability and a broad perspective. Their active participation in industry bodies like the Global Council for Responsible AI and NIST suggests a commitment to community and best practices, which aligns with a culture valuing collaboration and ethical innovation. However, the resume primarily highlights strategic and governance roles rather than hands-on AI engineering, which might require a cultural adjustment to a more technical, implementation-focused environment.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate demonstrates strong leadership, strategic thinking, and governance capabilities through extensive advisory and C-level roles. Their involvement in various committees and boards suggests excellent collaboration and communication skills, crucial for operational fit in a senior AI engineering role that often requires cross-functional leadership and stakeholder engagement. The focus on responsible AI and risk management aligns well with the ethical considerations inherent in advanced AI development.
