Data Engineer with production experience designing and operating enterprise-scale data infrastructure. At Safaricom, built ETL/ELT pipelines and Power BI reporting systems that directly enabled financial and operational decision-making across multiple business units. Approaches every data problem by defining the business outcome first, then engineering backward from the answer. Equally fluent in Python automation, SQL performance tuning, data modelling, and data quality governance as in translating pipeline outputs into findings that land with finance and operations stakeholders.

Alternative Credit Scoring System
June 23, 2026 – Present
Designed a machine learning credit risk model to evaluate borrowers underserved by traditional credit bureaus, targeting Kenya's credit gap where millions of informal economy workers lack scorable credit histories. Using the German Credit Dataset given the scarcity of clean, labelled Kenyan credit data, the project benchmarks Logistic Regression, Random Forest, and XGBoost across accuracy, precision, recall, and AUC-ROC to identify the most reliable classification algorithm for this risk scoring task. Being built in Python using Pandas, Scikit-learn, and Jupyter Notebook.
Swahili Next-Word Prediction Model, Transformer-Based Language Modelling
June 23, 2026 – Present
Built and deployed a transformer-based language model for Swahili next-word prediction, a non-trivial classification problem given the scarcity of clean, structured Swahili training data relative to high-resource languages. Collected and cleaned raw Swahili text, engineered the tokenisation pipeline, and trained the model using Hugging Face Transformers and PyTorch in Google Colab, running A/B-style evaluation across model configurations to select the best performer before deployment. Shipped a Gradio web interface for real-time inference, demonstrating full end-to-end ownership from raw data to a user-facing product.
