Independent Researcher
While I am an engineer by profession, I am a mathematician at heart. I focus on deep analysis of problems. I spent a year and a half on sabbatical, focused purely on mathematics - descriptive complexity theory and graph theory. I have a deep background in big data, having spent 8 years at Google, and developing a metadata server for their Tenzing and Dremel query engines. As well of course, as the usual MapReduce experience on insanely large datasets. I am a co-founder of a stealth mode startup in big data, consistent with my experience with Google. While I am excited about the opportunity we are pursuing, it is best if I not say too much about it here. Stay tuned! Areas of recent expertise: * Computational Complexity Theory * Graph Theory * Algorithms * 'Big Data' solutions including MapReduce * Alternative storage formats such as column-based storage, BigTable, and Megastore. * 'Impossible' SQL: Getting efficient results from SQL and solving 'SQL puzzles'. * Data Provenance (relationship between data, its sources, and how it is used). * C++ and Java and Python * Data Modeling and Schema Design.

Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's career trajectory shows a strong inclination towards deep technical challenges, innovation, and foundational system development. Their experience spans startups, large tech companies (Google), and independent research, indicating adaptability to different work environments. The focus on complex problems like P vs NP and Graph Isomorphism, along with practical applications in AI and database security, suggests a fit for organizations that value intellectual rigor and cutting-edge technical contributions. The long tenure at Google and Callidus Software also indicates loyalty and sustained contribution. The independent research periods, while demonstrating intellectual curiosity, could also indicate a preference for highly autonomous work.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's resume indicates a strong independent research drive and a history of taking on challenging, foundational technical roles. Their experience as a co-founder and lead developer suggests leadership and initiative. The sabbaticals for independent research highlight a deep intellectual curiosity and problem-solving orientation, which can be a significant asset in complex technical environments. However, the resume does not provide direct evidence of communication or teamwork skills in a collaborative setting beyond project descriptions.
