Working on scalable machine learning applications
I'm working on scalable machine learning applications using Spark, Scala, Python and R on AWS and GCP compute clusters. Previously I worked on real-time bidding, personalization and recommendation systems, and explanatory modeling for marketing channel attribution on very large-scale data at The Shipyard. I also participated in startup activities for Ubix Labs, and lead a software engineering team in its initial product design and implementation for an agent-based meta-learning framework that automated data science and visual analytics. The analytics software was built on Spark and written in Scala. I have over 15 years of experience as a software developer, manager, and leader in machine learning and graphics development with companies that have helped to shape their respective industries. My work experience has included participation in three major acquisitions. My roles include: • Director of Machine Learning, The Shipyard, Inc. • Principle Machine Learning Scientist, Ubix Labs. • CEO/Co-founder, Percognate, Inc. • Managing Director, FTI Technology Labs • Director and CTO, Research & Advanced Development, Attenex • Senior Software Engineer, Trumba Corporation • Software Design Engineer/Dev Lead Sparkle—Developer Tools Division, Microsoft • Development Lead/Software Design Engineer Visio Corporation/Microsoft • Computer Scientist/Advanced Technology Group, Adobe Systems • Consulting Software Engineer, Aldus Corporation During my tenure at Attenex and FTI, I served as a leader and director in advancing the company’s technical posture in electronic discovery. I was the Managing Director of FTI Technology Labs leading research efforts in preparing FTI for the next generation of machine-assisted document classification in electronic discovery. I also managed FTI Technology’s intellectual property portfolio, and contributed extensivel

Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's career trajectory shows a strong inclination towards innovation, research, and leadership in data-intensive fields. The transition from software engineering to deep machine learning and data science roles, including founding a startup, indicates a proactive and growth-oriented mindset. The diverse experience across large corporations (Microsoft, Adobe) and smaller, specialized tech companies (Attenex, Trumba, Ubix Labs) suggests adaptability to different organizational cultures. However, the target role of 'Data Analyst' might be a step down in terms of direct leadership and strategic influence compared to their past roles (e.g., Principal Machine Learning Scientist, Director of Machine Learning, CTO). This could be a potential mismatch if the candidate is seeking a highly strategic or leadership-focused position, or it could indicate a desire to return to a more hands-on analytical role. The lack of specific project details makes it difficult to assess alignment with specific team dynamics or company values.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's extensive leadership and entrepreneurial experience (CEO of Percognate, Managing Director, Director of Research and Architecture) suggests strong leadership, strategic thinking, and project management skills. Descriptions of leading teams and developing B2B software solutions indicate an ability to drive initiatives and deliver complex projects. The long tenure in various senior roles at established companies like Microsoft and FTI/Attenex points to stability and adaptability in diverse operational environments. However, without specific psychometric test results, a detailed assessment of work attitude, stress handling, and team collaboration is not possible.
