Quantifying College Basketball Rivalries

• Scraped various online basketball databases to compile a collection of over 10000 rows of head-to-head match ups of over 477 NCAA Division 1 teams from the past 10 years. Used Python to create a classifier in determining a college rivalry using a training set and D3.js to create a web app to visualize the top rivalries according to our metric. • Used exploratory data analysis to create a metric of evaluating college basketball rivalries that allowed us to create a classifier. Developed a model using unique predictors that worked better in determining rivalries than commonly used factors in Excel. Validated our poll using statistical tests and survey data from Reddit.
