MedBus : A Medical Data Omnibus for the UMHS Research Data Strategy
November 1, 2013 – Present
The mission of the MSIS Research IT program is to drive the deployment of information technology services for the Medical School research community. Our program is faced with a research data environment that is a complex landscape of heterogeneous data types that exist in multiple formats and reside in a variety of storage systems hosted across campus. This complexity will grow in the near future as big data derived from genomics, epigenomics and digital imaging systems are increasingly produced by UMHS research programs. To meet the current and emerging challenges to research data discovery and access, we have developed a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) approach to presenting this chimeric assemblage of research data as a collection of data services that are agnostic to the technology used to generate these services. This framework allows for services to leverage existing domain knowledge within units, increases interoperability among units, and facilitates the speedy alignment of IT resources to shifting research needs across the enterprise. Our SOA platform named MedBus, has been initially deployed as a physiological waveform metadata service that is consumed by the Data Direct tool and additional services are in development to expose biospecimen repository data and to extend the tool via data virtualization.
Giving and Receiving Feedback

Certified Scrum Developer
Scrum Alliance
June 24, 2026 – Present
Cultural Fit Analysis
The candidate's career trajectory shows a strong inclination towards architectural and leadership roles, with significant experience in academic and research-oriented institutions, as well as financial services and insurance. The 'MedBus' project highlights experience in complex data integration within a research context. While the experience is broad, the target role of 'Backend Engineer' might be a step down from their recent CTO/Principal Engineer roles, potentially indicating a desire for a more hands-on technical contribution. The diversity of industries and technologies suggests adaptability, but the long tenure in academic settings might imply a different pace or focus compared to a fast-moving tech startup. The 'Certified Scrum Developer' indicates familiarity with agile methodologies.
Soft Skills & Operational Fit
The candidate's extensive experience in leadership and architectural roles suggests strong soft skills in strategic thinking, project leadership, and potentially mentoring. Their involvement in establishing enterprise architecture programs and leading technical teams indicates a capacity for operational oversight and driving technical initiatives. The 'Giving and Receiving Feedback' certification also points to an awareness of professional development in communication.
